…..Asks OAU Management To Lift Ban On Students Unionism
A Senior Advocate Of Nigeria (SAN), Mr Femi Falana, has charged politicians and government officials who paid condolence visits to the family of the late Spokesman of the Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, to govern on the path of democracy and the rule of law to honour him, saying that was the only way he could be honoured by any government.
Falana made the charge while speaking with journalists on Thursday at the lying In State programme of the late Yinka Odumakin, at the Police College, Ikeja-Lagos.
The Senior Advocate said that late Odumakin was an unrepentant human rights activist who had been fighting against injustice and military rule since his undergraduate days in University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University).
Falana said “All government officials who have sympathised with the family must solve the problems of our people whom Yinka fought for.
“To honour him, the political class must take this country to its right path; on the path of democracy, on the path of the rule of law and on the path of human rights. Any government that wants to honour Yinka must live by those principles.”
He also charged the management of the Obafemi Awolowo University to lift the ban on Students Unionism because late Odumakin was part of student unionism in his days in the university and that it was the Students Union that produced him as a political fighter.
The legal luminary expressed profound sympathy with the family, adding that he was sure that the wife of the deceased would continue the struggle and not allow the dream of Odumakin to die.
