As part of efforts to expand the scope of the nascent citadel of learning, all is now set for the movement of the Federal University, Lokoja (FUL) to its permanent site located at Felele, a suburb of the capital city along Lokoja- Okene highway, before the end of this month.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Angela Miri who disclosed this while speaking in a chat with journalists in Lokoja, said the institution is set to move gradually to the permanent site.
Professor Miri explained that the movement of the University to the permanent site had become necessary to give room for further expansion that could accommodate more development.
She also hinted that the next council meeting of the institution and the 3rd and 4th combined convocation ceremony of the University have been slated to hold at the permanent site in December to mark its relocation to the new environment.
According to her “all arrangements for the relocation have been put in place as necessary academic facilities and basic infrastructure such as faculties, departmental and administrative buildings including access roads are already there for smooth take-off”
Professor Miri, however, noted that the present temporary site of the University will still retain some of its faculties and departments.
On her achievements since assumption of office, the Vice-Chancellor said she has not relented in repositioning the University to ensure academic excellence.
The VC disclosed that she inherited a University with dilapidated structure at the temporary site, but observed that the development at the temporary site of the University under her leadership has greatly improved as at today.
Professor Miri explained that under her leadership the institution has attained full accreditation for all courses and approval gotten by the institution to begin the postgraduate programmes of Master and PhD
She equally told Our Correspondent that the permanent site of the university is at ninety percent completion, with movement planned to the new campus for this month.
While noting that aside improvement in infrastructure, FUL ranks top in academic, a feat that has earned the University recognition.
The VC commended the staff and students of the University community for their cooperation saying that this singular gesture on their part facilitated her giant strides in the academic and infrastructural development of the University.
Professor Miri who vowed not to compromise the standard and due process in the running of the University appreciated the current cordial relationship between her and staff but advised a factional group of the institution as opposed to her administration to have a rethink and join hands in moving the University to the next level.
