The Federal Government has suspended the Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture (FUNAAB), Prof. Olusola Oyewole, over the criminal charges filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Adewole’s suspension was convey in a letter signed by the Acting Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Dr. Hussaini Adamu and made available to journalists in Abeokuta.
The western post reports that Oyewole was arraigned November 2016 by EFCC over charges bordering on mismanagement of funds.
The letter directed Oyewole to hand over the affairs of the school to the senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor in the institution.
“The suspension letter is sequel to your arraignment before an Ogun State High Court on Criminal charges by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday, November 24, 2016.
“I am directed to convey the Honourable Minister’s approval to place you on suspension from office with immediate effect pending the determination of the Court case against you in accordance with extant rules.
“You are therefore directed to hand over the affairs of your office to the most senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor in the university.
Meanwhile, the institution’s Head, Directorate of Public Relations, Mrs. Emi Alawode said in a release that consultations were in progress with the University Administration on the true position of things.
She said a formal statement would be issued in due course, saying that all normal academic and administrative activities were ongoing unabated, in the University.
