The Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) on Tuesday paid a courtesy call on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu after inspecting facilities in Lagos for the Under 20 Female Football Team competition, which comes up in 2020.
The team, which was led by the President of Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) Amaju Pinnick said FIFA was impressed with what they had seen so far in Lagos.
Pinnick thanked Governor Sanwo-Olu for the role he played in the last Nation’s Cup, the support he gave to Super Eagles during the African Nations Cup.
In return, Governor Sanwo-Olu thanked the FIFA team for considering the city of Lagos as one of the cities considered for the Under 20 Female Football match if Nigeria is to host the tournament in 2020.
‘We sit on the largest city in Africa with over 22 million people. As a young government we see a lot of challenges but the Under 20 World Cup in Nigeria will bring people in Lagos together. A global music festival is coming to Lagos in 2020. We will give NFF the support to make this a great experience.’
Governor Sanwo-Olu also noted that the Lagos State Government will use sport as a corrective narrative for the youthful population of Lagos to push their potentials.
