President Muhammadu Buhari has spoken with Nigerian players, ahead of their 2018 World Cup opener against Croatia on Saturday.

This was confirmed by the official Super Eagles’ Twitter account.

“The Presidential delegation to the 2018 #WorldCup led by Sports Minister @SolomonDalung, and including the @cenbank Governor Godwin Emefiele, along with the Nigerian Ambassador to Russia Steve Ugbah have visited the team in camp.

“The delegation ensured that President @MBuhari spoke to captain @mikel_john_obi on the phone, charging him to lead the team to doing the nation proud in the competition,” the tweets read.

Nigeria have never lost the opening game in a World Cup and will be confident ahead of the clash with the Croats.

Kick-off is 8pm local time.
