A financial expert Alhaji Sanni Abdulmumini has urged incoming government in Kwara State to embark on Masses oriented projects I meeting the economics and infrastructures yearning of the people by exploiting numerous opportunities available for the state to forge for the meaningful development that would reflect in the livelihood of the people of the state.
Abdulmumini gave this advice on Monday in Ilorin while featuring on 24th media parliament (an interactive platform) designed by the Nigeria Union Of Journalists (NUJ) kwara state council, to bridge the gap between citizens and those in charge of authority, on the topic: “Economic and Kwara Revenue Potentials Of The State”.
According to the speaker, “Electioneering period is gone, it is time to face the reality on how to bring desired dividends of democracy to the electorates that were not satisfied with the performance of outgoing government.
“Despite the abundant of natural and human resources the state blessed with. It is a pity that we are far behind in terms of infrastructure development and economic benediction compared to states created at the same year.
“Kwara has been consistently governed by various political leaders that have no vision or economic road map for the state. Political leadership is very important for social-economic development as succinctly put by the former president of Ghana, Sir Nkrumah that “seek ye political kingdom and every other things shall follow” where the political leaders are doing wrong, the consequential effect is very enormous and impacting.
“It is unfortunate that Kwara has been under leaders that have no sincerity of purpose in all their dealings with the state. The successful governance has been characterized by excessive arbitrariness, high level of impunity and total disregard to the will of people. Most of the projects embarked on are not people oriented but imposed for selfish reasons of leaders and these are the projects that gulp billions of Naira, In a state where most of the roads at the Capital city are in bad conditions, no functioning water system, lack of sincere support to Small and Medium businesses by government and poor rural development.”
Abdulmumini, however charged the incoming government led by Governor-elect, “Alhaji AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq to give attention to economic potentials of the state, like agriculture which remains the major provider of employment if well programmed and planned. Commerce and industries considering the population increase in kwara state and the geographical location coupled with the peaceful co-existence. And mining potential, all the 16 local government in the state are blessed with various mineral resources and these should be fully explored by incoming government for economic prosperity in the state.”
He advised the incoming government to firstly identify asset and liabilities of the state. Settlement of outstanding salaries and wages. Setting up of think tank committee for the state. Work on the needs assessment of every part of the state. And come up with an experienced people with Capacity to run the affairs of the state.
