Fire Razes Five Houses, 25 Shops In Ondo

    Properties worth millions of naira were destroyed beyond recognition on Sunday night at Ọba ńlá area of Akure, the capital city.

    The inferno was said to have been caused by the mini-gas station located in the area while another set of eyewitnesses said it was caused by a power surge.

    The ugly incident happened at exactly 9:45pm on Sunday night.

    Western Post gathered that shop owners were not aware because of the 7am – 7pm curfew over the covid-19 lockdown in the state.

    The major cause was really said to be gas exploration due to the location of a gas station around the place.

    Many houses and shops were torched and destroyed completely.

    As at the time of filing this report, no firefighters were seen at the scene of the fire.

    One of the property owners in the area, Olanrewaju Olawale said, there was no light from the electricity distribution company before the outbreak of the inferno.

    He confirmed that five houses were touched beyond recognition and no fewer than 25 shops destroyed.
