The alleged forgery case filed against Senate President Bukola Saraki, his deputy Ike Ekweremadu and two others has commenced at the high court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The case was instituted against the officers by the Attorney-General of the federation and Justice Minister, Mallam Abubakar Malami.

Former Clerk of the National Assembly, Alhaji Salisu Maikasuwa, and his deputy, Bernard Efeturi, are the two other accused persons.

They were alleged to have forged the Senate Rule 2011 on the election of the principal officers of the Senate.

According to Channels Television, all the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the first count of criminal conspiracy and the second charge of forgery.

Counsel to the first accused person and other accused persons then applied for bail on behalf of all the accused persons.

Meanwhile, the court has granted Saraki, his deputy and other accused persons bail. The court had earlier told the accused persons to meet the bail conditions or go to jail.

The court subsequently adjourned the case till July 11.
