Former APC Interim Chair, Bisi Akande, Blasts Party’s Caretaker Committee

The former Interim National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Bisi Akande, has blasted the party’s National Caretaker Committee headed by Yobe State Governor Mai Bala Buni over the ongoing fresh membership registration.

Saying that the committee is an abnormality, he warned the committee over the temptation to want to sit tight in office.

Akande, who is also former governor of Osun State, spoke when the caretaker committee visited his Ila-Orangun hometown in Osun to register him.

President Muhammadu Buhari had inaugurated the fresh registration exercise for the party when he registered on Tuesday in Daura, his hometown.

“In normal circumstances, a Caretaker Executive Committee for a political party is an abnormality. If not carefully controlled and expeditiously managed, most aberrant authorities end up in contempt and disgrace,” the former APC chairman said.

“For this reason, Chief Akande added, “I want to urge the present APC Caretaker Executive Committee to resist all temptations of sit-tight syndromes that usually characterised most hand-picked authorities in most underdeveloped countries of the world.”

He also criticised the fresh registration saying it’s a wasteful exercise when the party has a well-computerized register that could be updated to take advantage of new technology if the need arises.

Akande also questioned the wisdom in compiling a fresh register when the last one was not up to a decade, arguing that even the national census is not conducted that way.

“No population census is repeated within less than a decade and voters are not registered at every election. Within this context, I see the present APC membership registration within less than a decade after the original register as an indefensible aberration, leading to certain ugly perceptions,” Akande said.

There was an ominous silence as Akande was making his submissions. The caretaker committee members left Ila-Orangun with their tales in between their legs.
