Forum Of Nigerian Majority Leaders Holds Maiden National Convention In Lagos


The Nigerian Majority Leaders Forum has sought for more harmonious relationship between its members and the Speakers of House of Assemblies across the states in the country.

The newly elected Chairman of the forum, Hon. Sanai Agunbiade, made this known during his acceptance speech at the maiden national convention of the Nigerian Majority Leaders held on Sunday in Lagos.

Agunbiade noted that the forum was formed to collaborate with the conference of speakers of states legislature in deepening democracy and the way laws were made in the country.

According to him, the forum was also established to collaborate with the speakers of Houses of Assembly by promoting cross learning amongst members of the forum.

The chairman noted that even though there could be clash of interest but the forum would enlightened them on how they could relate with themselves without forming enemity with their speakers for the House to move seamlessly.

He said: “The purpose of the forum is the realisation of the fact that legislature is the signpost of democracy and there is need to deepen democracy.

“In addition, the majority leader is the head of the business in the House and they hold charge during plenary session.

“As a result of that there is need to engage best practices in the process of lawmaking, to learn from ourselves and this is something that has been done well in the South West.

“This is why all the majority leaders have come together at the instance of the speakers of South-West to help handle legislative reforms because we need a lot of reforms in the legislature.

“Therefore, the forum will further drag this reforms across ethnic ground, which is one of the reason we are coming together to learn from ourselves and share experience.”

Agunbiade said the challenges of the majority leaders was the balancing interests of various members in the assemblies.
