Four Arrested for Murder of NURTW Member

The police in Lagos have apprehended four suspects in connection with the murder of one Ganiyu Ayinla aka Pinero, a member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers on Lagos Island.

The PUNCH reported that the suspects – Bashiru Bashorun aka Abija; Sunday Balogun aka Falori, John Oladokun aka John Ibafo and Gbolahan Olomokere aka Motherless Junior – were arrested with a Toyota Camry they reportedly used to perpetrate the crime.

Pinero was in company with the NURTW chairman, Idumota branch, Lagos Island, on January 23 around 3am, when some gunmen suddenly opened fire on them on John Street, Idumota.

The deceased, who was Poly’s personal assistant, died in the attack targeted at the chairman, while the gunmen fled the scene.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, in a press briefing on Monday, confirmed the arrest and recovery of the alleged operational vehicle with the number plate, KTU 713 EZ.

Edgal said one pump-action gun was recovered from the suspects, adding that investigation was ongoing.

He said, “So far, they have all confessed to the crime and mentioned one Ade Lawyer who is currently at large as a co-participant in the crime.

“This type of killing has become the trend whenever NURTW election is approaching, but the command will certainly make it the last.”

The suspects were, however, not allowed to speak to the press as they were hurriedly whisked away in a car after the parade.
