Tragedy struck on Friday afternoon when a container truck crushed a fully-loaded bus and killed all the occupants in the vehicle. The bus was said to be headed for Lagos.
Our correspondent reports that the accident occurred along Sagamu/Benin expressway by the Ilisan side, very close to Sagamu junction.
It was further gathered that the accident, which happened a few minutes after mid day, left all the occupants in the bus dead. The occupants, as reliably gathered, were mainly students of Olabisi Onabanjo University, (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, who were on their way to Lagos.
An eyewitness, Commander Tommy Hamzat, the Commander of TRACE, Ijebu Command, told our correspondent that the truck driver drove against traffic but an unsuspecting driver of the commercial bus, who was on its own lane, collided with the truck.
“I was coming from Sagamu side and saw the accident. I had to hurriedly park my car, ran there to see if the passengers could be rescued but unfortunately all the occupants were dead including the driver.
“The bus was facing Lagos, though I don’t know where it was coming from. The container truck with no load in it was coming from Sagamu side but was driving against traffic and that resulted in the collision, which eventually claimed the lives of the innocent people, ” he said.
Our correspondent gathered that the remains of the deceased have been taken to the mortuary at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, OOUTH, Sagamu.
