Manu Garba, Head Coach of the national under-20 male football team, the Flying Eagles, on Friday released the names of 20 players listed for an international friendly against Benin Republic.
This is contained in a statement issued by the team’s Media Officer, Samm Audu, in Abuja.
The players are goalkeepers Joshua Enaholo, Adamu Abubakar and Abdulazeez Abubakar, as well as defenders Musa Muhammed, Mustapha Abdullahi, Ifeanyi Nweke, Wilfred Ndidi, Izu Omego and Zaharadeen Bello.
The midfielders are Chidiebere Nwakali, Musa Yahaya, Kelechi Iheanacho, Abdullahi Alfa, Akinjide Idowu, Wasiu Jimoh, Ifeanyi Matthew and Ifeanyi Ifeanyi, while the strikers are Alhassan Ibrahim, Taiwo Awoniyi and Sulaiman Abdullahi.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the Flying Eagles are billed to take on their Benin Republic counterparts in Porto Novo on Sunday, May 4.
The international friendly is a build-up match to the team’s 2015 African Youth Championship (AYC) qualifier in Tanzania.
Both teams had clashed at the same level previously.
They drew 1-1 in Cotonou in September 2012 while the rematch in Abuja ended in a goalless draw.
The statement said the test match would be played at Charles de Gaulle Stadium in Porto Novo from 4 p.m. local time, which is the same time with Nigeria.
The Nigerian team is expected to leave after the match for their first leg AYC qualifier match against Tanzania slated for the weekend of May 9 to May 11.
The return leg will be in Nigeria two weeks later.
According to the statement, two players will be dropped from the squad after the Benin friendly for the 2015 AYC qualifier in Tanzania.
It also added that Shehu Adamu, a Nigeria Football Association (NFA) executive committee member, would lead the team to both Benin and Tanzania.
