Five persons have been feared dead in a ghastly motor accident involving a vehicle belonging to the Oyo State Command of Federal Road Safety Corps and a commercial micra cab at Moniya along Ibadan-Oyo Expressway.
Eyewitnesses at the scene of the incident disclosed that one arresting officer of the corp flagged down the driver of the commercial cab who
refused to obey while other officers pursued the driver with their vehicle.
WESTERN POST learnt that the federal Road Safety officials pursued the driver until he entered a ditch during which the driver of the cab and four other persons including a small child were reportedly dead.
It was gathered that the vehicle belonging to the Road Safety was badly damaged in the process.
Some of the eyewitnesses who spoke with Journalists blamed officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps for the accident.
Other commercial drivers at the scene of the incident decried the excesses of officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps along the
Ibadan/ Oyo Expressway calling on the concerned authorities to intervene before the situation get of hand.
When contacted on telephone, the Public Relations and Enlightenment Officer of the Command, Seun Onijala, confirmed the incident stressing
that some his men were lynched by the angry mob.
Onijala who said he had not been able to confirm the casualty figure disclosed that some of the victims including officials of the corps
who sustained injury have been moved to the University College Hospital for treatment.
