A mother and her son have been confirmed dead in the early morning accident that happened at Kelebe area of Osogbo, Osun State capital on Monday.
It was gathered that a car allegedly ran into a motorcycle and killed two out of the family of four persons who were on the bike.
It was gathered that the woman, identified as Adijat and one child died on the spot, while the father and the other child have been rushed to Omogbolahan Specialist Hospital.
Similarly, several passengers were reportedly feared dead in multiple accidents along the Ilesa-Akure Highway, Osun State on Monday. The accident was said to have happened around 11:35 am at Erin Ijesa, a town in the Oriade Local Government Area of the State.
It was gathered that a diesel-laden tanker fell on the highway, and caught fire immediately thereby affecting several vehicles.
An eyewitness account said, “Many vehicles were affected in the accident and it has even caused gridlock on the road. The officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) are on the ground, diverting motorists to ply Ipetu Ijesa town to ease the traffic. Many people were burnt to death while some sustained severe burns, but I don’t know the numbers of those that were affected. The situation is very terrible.”
It was also gathered that about seven vehicles including an 18- passenger commercial bus were burnt. The Police Public Relations Officer in Osun State, Mrs Yemisi Opalola, who confirmed the development to journalists said she could not ascertain the number of casualties yet.
