The wife of Ondo State governor, and Founder of BEMORE Empowerment Foundation, Mrs. Betty Anyeanwu-Akeredolu has expressed determination to change the narratives of people towards the girl-child.
Akeredolu stated this at Government House, Akure, the Ondo state capital on Tuesday as part of the activities marking this year’s International Day of the Girl Child.
She said her foundation has trained close to 2000 girls in various skills acquisition, including solar power installation, Web design, and other skills that would make them self reliance.
Fielding questions from journalists on the motive behind the gesture, she said: “The essence is to make the girls BEMORE responsible and bold to all challenges not only now but in the nearest future.
“The essence is to make the girls more useful and bold to challenge all challenges that might want to come their ways now and time to come. The girls are determined to change the narratives and that what a man can do, a woman can also do even much better.”
One of the girls who graduated from the foundation in 2019, Christiana Madu, testified that after her graduation, she got employed by an ICT firm in Ibadan after passing the interview.
Another testifier to the importance of the BEMORE Foundation, Yusuf Boluwatife Chelsea , a secondary school student, said she has concluded arrangements with her school authority to install solar powered lights to all classes of the institution as a way of giving back to society.
Mrs. Akeredolu said that time has come for society to invest in a girl child for a better future and a better tomorrow.
She noted that the founding project is capital intensive and is being sponsored by well-meaning Nigerians across party lines.
