The wife of Ondo state governor, Arábìnrin Betty Akeredolu has advised parents to engage their wards in things that will benefit the lots of their children mostly their girl child during this summer break and also make do with some other opportunities for their children.
She made the advice during her yearly designed program for the young and talented girls of school age tagged BEMORE SUMMER BOOTCAMP.
The program is designed to change the life experience of the young girls which usually takes place in the month of August for the training of girls on skills acquisitions that will benefit them for the rest of their lives.
The program ranges from computer training and giving them an iPad free for free of charge with some other professional skills.
At this year’s edition of the program that took place at the Ilara Mokin, the headquarters of Ifedore Local government area of the state, Akeredolu welcomed everyone to the occasion and recognized the presence of the Royal fathers and other dignitaries present at the occasion.
She proceeded with the speech by giving words of encouragement to the girls participating in the BEMORE summer BOOTCAMP,to be more serious with the program which they will find useful in the nearest future.
According to her, “for two years we have trained 750 girls, 750 girls that will change the narrative of the child; that will bring to the balance to the gender world; that will ensure that no girl is looked down on again because girls do amazing things”.
She said further that she has come to here today to welcome another 250 girls who will join their compatriots already on the field, fighting for the course of women, showing to the world that women can be more useful than what the society says they are.
She said, “Women will stand for themselves;the girls will stand for themselves and they will not be taking for fools when they are already playing a vital role in nation building”
Akeredolu also said she does not want the girls to put their dependence on any man but to walk shoulder to shoulder and hand in hand with any man that comes their way to achieve a prosperous society for all. Arabirin said the duty is not for men alone but for both gender to create a society that is free of violence; that is free from atrocities; that is free of all forms of intimidation and harassment.
” a society that must grow, a society that must be sustained is a society that does not discriminate by any means especially by gender” she said
While responding the Olowa of Igbara-Oke, HRM, Oba (Dr.) Francis Adefarakanmi Agbede-grace Ilufemiloye thanked Mrs Akeredolu for a good job done and encouraged the participants to make use of whatever they will be taught in the camp when they will be done with the summer bootcamp.
The Royal father also appreciated the effort of the wife of the Governor for the good innovation she is passing to the young girls and eventually admonished the parents to be up and doing in giving their wards a good lease of life through the program.
