Ten matches are lined up for this weekend as the 2013/2014 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) called Globacom Premier League enters Week 18.
Four matches are scheduled to take place on Saturday May 31, while the other six matches will take place on Sunday June 1.
FC Taraba will have their hands full on Saturday in Jalingo, when they host league leaders Sharks FC of Port Harcourt.
In Jos, league debutants Giwa FC will seek the maximum three points as they host relegation threatened Nembe City, while Dolphins FC of Port Harcourt trade tackles at home with Lobi Stars of Makurdi.
In the other Saturday encounter, Bayelsa United will host Heartland FC of Owerri.
The star match of the week is scheduled to take place in Kaduna on Sunday between defending champions and two time winners, Kano Pillars and six time champions Enyimba International FC of Aba.
A win for Pillars will see them step up from their current sixth place, while a loss for Enyimba, popularly called “the Peoples Elephant’’ will see them drop from their current third place.
In other matches, Abia Warriors currently 15th on the league table will test their might against Gombe United in Umuahia, while Enugu Rangers will seek to improve on their fortunes when they host Kaduna United.
It will be a battle of the fittest in Uyo, when eight placed Akwa United host Crown FC of Ogbomosho, while Warri Wolves square up against Nasarawa United in Warri.
The match involving Sunshine Stars and El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri, earlier scheduled for Saturday May 31 will now take place on June 1in Akure.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the first round of action in the ongoing NPFL season is expected to end on June 8.
However, the Week 3 match between Abia Warriors and Nembe City FC as well as the Week 8 encounter between Kano Pillars and Bayelsa United will take place on June 11.
Similarly, the encounter between Bayelsa United and Giwa FC of Jos will hold in Bayelsa on June 15.
