By Mosunmola Ayobami,Ilorin

Kwara State Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed, has advocated the review of the concept of citizenship to place emphasis on the place of residence in order to suit the current exigency and for the benefit of all.

Governor Ahmed made the call when he hosted the Committee on Police Recruitment in Ilorin, the state capital on Wednesday. He expressed dismay over the challenges of citizenship as it affects residents in an area.

The governor argued further that there was urgent need to address the problem with a view to cementing unity among Nigerians.

Governor Ahmed raised the alarm over what he described as proliferation of fake certificates and suggested a verification exercise to scrutinize applicants for the police job and other recruitment exercises.

According to the governor, “The verification of certificate is very germane in order to guide against criminals getting their ways into, especially our security system”.

Speaking earlier, Team Leader, Dr. Femi Ogunsola, told the governor that they were in the state in respect of the ongoing police recruitment exercise.

Ogunsola explained that the committee was put in place by the Police Service Commission to oversee the ongoing police recruitment to ensure a hitch-free exercise.

He added  that the committee had received petitions from concerned Nigerians over forged certificates.
