The Zealous Kwara Youths have called on Kwara state government to Immortalised late Chief Josiah Olawoyin as part of recognition for his selfless service rendered to the state during his lifetime.
The President of The Zealous Kwara Youths, Mr. John Adegboye made this call during a press conference held to mark 19th years remembrance of the late icon.
Adegboye urged the state government to immortalise him, adding that his selflessness and the qualities he exemplified during his lifetime should not go unrewarded.
The Kwara state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu and a former Governor of old Kaduna State, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, were among eminent personalities expected at the 19th posthumous lecture of the first Asiwaju of Offa, Late Chief Josiah Olawoyin.
The memorial lecture, which is at the instance of The Zealous Kwara Youths would hold at Offa Descendants Union (ODU) Hall in Offa, Local Government Area of the state on Saturday.
The President o the group, said while Tinubu had been invited as a Special Guest while Gov. AbdulRazaq would serve as chairman of the occasion.
Also expected to deliver papers at the lecture are Balarabe Musa, a former governorship aspirant in Kwara, Mr. Sunday Babalola and a Federal Commissioner with Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Chief Olatokunbo Adekunle Ajasin.
The press conference was attended by two sons of late Olawoyin, Segun Olawoyin and Obafemi Olawoyin and the immediate past Leader of the eighth legislature of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hassan Oyeleke,
The leader of the group said they decided to honour Olawoyin, who at various times held positions with which he influenced development policies the people of the state are enjoying today.
Adegboye, who recalled the invaluable contribution of the late Asiwaju of Offa, disclosed that he moved motion for the creation of Kwara State, which was seconded by Alhaji Abdulganiyu Folorunsho AbdulRazaq, father of the incumbent Governor of the state.
He added that the group resolved to celebrate the late political icon because he represented the finest qualities of not only an Offa man but what progressive politics should be national.
“Late Chief J.S Olawoyin represents the finest qualities of not only an Offa man; he represents the impression of Ibolo land, Kwara State and what Progressive Politics Nationally should be.
“We are committed towards gaining inspiration from his life and times during the course of the lecture. It is a very sad and yet unavoidable reality that the few of the elders that are still with us on the planet earth have advanced in age as some of them had passed unto glory”, he said.
He also said Olofa of Offa, Oba Muftau Gbadamosi Esuwoye II is expected to lead other royal fathers at the memorial lecture.
