Group Charges FG on Completion of Ajaokuta Steel Project


…Commends Buhari on Sole administrator’ appointment

A group,  the Ebira People’s Association (EPA), the umbrella body of all Ebira people in Nigeria and in the Diaspora has called on the Federal Government to ensure the timely completion of the Ajaokuta Steel Project, one of the largest steel companies in the world.

Ajaokuta which he disclosed,  has remained abandoned for more than 30 years.

In a statement signed  by  President-General of the Association, Dr. Abdurrahaman Adeiza stated that the Ajaokuta Steel Complex represents the surest route to Nigeria’s industrialization, adding that the hope of millions of Nigerians lies in the completion of the steel complex which he described as germaine to the nation’s industrial development.

He however commended  the Buhari administration for steps taken so far towards revitalizing the Ajaokuta Steel Complex,  decried the neglect the project had suffered under previous administrations as a result of greed, lack of political will and high-wired international conspiracy.

The statement also commended President Muhammadu Buhari over the recent appointment of Engr. Sumaila Abdul-Aka’aba, as the Sole Administrator of Ajaokuta Steel Company.

The group called on the new Sole Administrator to consider the interest of the people ahead of every other considerations in the discharge of his responsibilities , urging him to live up to the high expectations of the host community and all Nigerians.

The association also praised the Honourable Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi for his determination to ensure the completion of the Ajaokuta Steel Project as demonstrated by his role in the landmark settlement between the federal government and the former concessionaires to set the stage for the completion of the steel complex.
