Gunmen Disrupt Kogi PDP Governorship Primary Election

It was  pandemonium yesterday (Wednesday) when  suspected political thugs stormed the venue of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary  election  which ended abruptly in the early hours of Wednesday

The hoodlums numbering about 20 ,heavily armed and beating water tight security arrangement  invaded the venue of the election, Lokoja Confluence Stadium at about 1.45 am shooting sporadically as the electoral committee, the aspirants,agents,some delegates  and observers as well as journalists scampered for safety

The voting had ended and sorting of votes were going on when some unknown  gunmen forced their way into the venue at about 1:45a.m. and started shooting from different directions .

Sources hinted that one of the delegates from Koton Karfe  who was said to have ran for cover jumped and lost is live in the process .

It was gathered that votes  in eight out of the 10 ballot balloxes have already been and sorted out before the disruption by the unidentified  gunmen.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State who is the  Chairman of Kogi PDP Electoral Committee and other members of the committee have to escaped the bullets of the gunmen.

The former governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris has described the process of PDP governorship primary election as peaceful ,free and fair , saying this is best in the history.

Idris urged all the party faithfuls to support of whoever emerges  as  the party flag bearer, adding that it only with unity the PDP can recapture the state.

Earlier in the evening, Fintiri stated that the committee received a total of 2600 ballot papers , stating that the total number of expected delegates was  2511 while 2388 delegates were  accredited to cast their votes for the primary election.
