Former Chief Security Officer to ex-Governor Rauf Aregbesola, CSP Hakeem Ajasa, may become the next Oniru of Iruland following his endorsement for the traditional stool by the Abisogun Royal Family.
The Abisogun royal family last night in Iruland unveiled CSP Hakeem Ajasa as the Oba-elect of Oniru.
Following the death of Oba Abiodun Idowu Oniru, from the Akiogun Family, the plum stool had become vacant.
The Oniru stool is originally to rotate among the three ruling houses, the Akiogun, Abisogun and Ogunyemi.
This is in line with the 1993 Customary Law signed into law by Governor Michael Otedola, stating that all the 3 ruling houses have rights to the throne.
But the Akiogun has been on the throne for 75 years and sources say now is the turn of the Abisogun to produce the next Oba.
WESTERN POST, however, learnt that the Akiogun has also stepped forward with a candidate for the stool- Aremo Adesegun Oniru, former Commissioner for Waterfront and Infrastructure in Lagos State.
The camp of Aremo Adesegun Oniru is set for battle against the emergence of Ajasa as the new traditional ruler.
A thorough-bred professional police officer, Ajasa is a Chief Superintendent of Police. He served as CSO to Aregbesola for his two terms as governor of Osun State.
At present, he is also the CSO to House of Representative Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila.
