A Lagos Commissioner-nominee, Princess Remi Adebowale Owoeye, has canvassed better health care insurance scheme for citizens as a way of improving the health of the people.
Owoeye said this Thursday morning at the would-be Commissioners screening exercise held at the Assembly Complex, Alausa, Ikeja, by the Lagos State House of Assembly.
She added that if her nomination is approved by the House and she is fortunate to head the health ministry, she would ensure the promotion of welfare of health officers in the State’s public hospitals for better and efficient service delivery.
The health practitioner explained that if staff were motivated and good medical equipment were made available to all public hospitals, there is high tendency that there would be reduction in medical tourism not only in Lagos but Nigeria at large.
Owoeye added ” To put a stop to medical tourism, the capacities of the health officers must be strengthened for better health service delivery and also those of us who have travelled wide across the world can import foreign medical experience into our health services”
It would be recalled that the Lagos State House of Assembly set up a 16 man ad-hoc screening committee on July 29 and was headed by the Chief Whip, Hon Rotimi Abiru, to screen the 25 Commissioner and Special Adviser nominees submitted to the House by the Executive Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
