Heavy Rain Wreaks Havoc In Ondo, 100 Houses Destroyed

Over 100 houses were destroyed at Irese Community in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State during a downpour on Friday night.

Residents of the area are counting their losses at the time of filing this report.

The rain that started minutes after seven in the night with wind blowing up some buildings and destroyed many electricity poles.

Irese Community Health Centre, City hall, and schools among other buildings were not left out and some church buildings were completely destroyed.

More so, a major poultry farm in the area was also touched by the devastating rain with properties running into several millions of naira not spared.

Conducting newsmen around the community, the Olurese of Ireseland, Oba Destiny Saka said the level of the disaster is beyond the community’s financial capability.

He called on the state Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, and other well-meaning Nigerians within and around the area to come to their aid as most victims are pensioners and peasants farmers.

According to him, there is a need for quick intervention as the victims have no place to stay or hide their heads.

In a separate interview, Mrs. Adunni Adeogun, Chief Samuel Ajayi Adefola, Mrs. Mary Okoro, and Chief Adebayo Jaiyeoba said the damaged level cannot be ascertained as efforts are ongoing to see the level but that so far, over 100 houses have been touched by the heavy rain.
