A six-and-half-years old Jimoh Abdulsobur has been battling a life-threatening disease since birth.
The condition makes him turn blue when he is exposed to stressful conditions,according to medical report from the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.
Abdulsobur, the son of Maintenance officer of a Micro Finance Bank in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, has had hole in his heart since birth.
He urgently needs a sum of N3.5 million for open heart surgery in abroad to stay alive.
Abdulsobur’s mother, it was gathered, is a charcoal seller. The couple said they cannot afford the amount for their son to survive.
They have therefore appealed to governments, philanthropists and the general public to come to their rescue.
Mr. Jimoh, an indigene of Offa, Offa Local Government of the state, told reporters that Abdulsobur “has had hole in his heart since birth. We want the general public to assist us in getting a sum of N3.5 million to carry out surgery for him in an Indian hospital.
“Initially, he was admitted for a different ailment at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) before it was discovered that he has hole in his heart.
“Formerly, he was slated for surgery when they said some medical personnel were coming from abroad to collaborate with those of the UITH for open heart surgery here in Ilorin. Due to Ebola outbreak the medical experts did not come again.”
He added that Abdulsobur is the last born of four children, saying he is the only male child.
Shedding more light on the ailment, Consultant Pediatrician/Cardiologist, UITH and a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ilorin, Dr J.K Afolabi, said, “this six and half years old boy has a hole in the heart called tetralogy of fallot.
“The hole has been present since birth. This makes him to turn blue when he is exposed to stressful conditions.
“The only treatment option is open heart surgery, which can only be carried out abroad. It will cost approximately N3.5 million for the surgery to be done in India, which is the option for the surgery.
“The parents are poor and cannot afford this huge medical bill abroad.
I am therefore appealing for your generous financial assistance for the operation to be carried out.”
