The Egypt Air flight with 81 persons on board headed for capital Cairo was hijacked early Tuesday morning and diverted to a local airport in Cyprus.
It all happened at 6. 30 am
It was a local flight, an Airbus 320, from Alexandria to Cairo. An Egyptian official said the hijacker threatened some of the crew members.
The hijacker, according to CNN, is wired with a suicide belt and seems to be making political demands.
The Egyptians in the hijacked plane have now been released, leaving only 5 foreigners and 7 crew members, perhaps in a bid to use them as basis for negotiation.
The identities of the foreigners are yet unknown.
