Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Friday said home ownership is a mark of great accomplishment.He made this statement when he handed-over keys to allottees of Lateef Jakande Gardens Igando.
The Governor said this epoch-making event marks yet another chapter in the series of creative and sustainable efforts of his administration in enhancing the fortunes of Lagosians.
According to him ” I am indeed delighted to see the policies of our government resulting in transformed lifestyles for the residents of the State. Homes as you all know are critical needs for stability in all areas of life. Home ownership is a mark of great accomplishment in all realms. Hence, my joy knows no bound as our people here today accomplish a major achievement of home ownership during our tenure.”
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu noted that the attainment of the vision of a Greater Lagos is a passion that keeps the engine of his administration running.
”We have your mandate and we regard that as sacred as we continue to strive for excellence in all areas of life. Governance is about impact. We are indeed happy that the building of a 21st Century Economy has begun touching the lives of our people, building confidence and generating and restoring the hope of a better future in the minds of all.”
He said when his commissioned Alhaji Lateef Jakande Gardens in September 2019, they promised that the keys would be handed over to the allotees before the end of the first quarter of 2020 and on Friday the beneficiaries of these are enjoying the dividends of democracy.
Sanwo-Olu congratulated the allottees of this scheme who are the forerunners of yet many more home owners to be made during this administration.
On his part, the Lagos State Commissioner of Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai said the State Government is strategizing and intervening at all points to ensure more and more homes are made available through budgetary allocation.
He said:”To this end, based on a marching order by Mr. Governor, all housing schemes which were initiated but uncompleted by previous administrations are now being speedily worked upon. In a few weeks, the Igbogbo 11b scheme will be delivered with 360 homes, Sangotedo Scheme with 774 units, Odo Onosa /Ayandelu housing scheme in Agbowa axis with 660 and Egan Igando with 680 will follow suit before the end of this year by God’s grace.
“Beyond this, our Private Partners and Joint Venture partners are also being mandated to work with speed to meet up with our desired pace. As we speak, the Lagos State Affordable Homes scheme at Idale Badagry will be ready in a few weeks with 252 homes as well as other schemes located in Lekki phase 11, Ibeshe and Iponri scheduled to deliver about 1000 homes within this year from these partnership arrangements.
The Commissioner said that the state was also working out innovative strategies and technologies to reduce time of construction, increase quality of home and most importantly lessen cost so that the end products can be more affordable. “Due to scarcity of land, we are going vertical in the designing so that more homes can be accommodated within our available space,” he added
