Prominent leaders of the All Progressives Congress converged on Ibada, Oyo State capital, on Thursday for a crucial meeting to discuss issues of interest to the zone and chart the way forward.
The meeting held at the instance of former Interim Chairman of the party, Chief Bisi Akande, was hosted by Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
In attendance were Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Governors Akinwunmi Ambode (Lagos), Ibikunle Amosun, Rauf Aregbesola and former governors Olusegun Osoba, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Niyi Adebayo and ministers produced by the region.
The Governor-elect of Ondo State, Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, was not at the meeting. He was said not to have been invited.
Ministers at the meeting were Babtunde Fasola (Works, Power and Housing), Mrs. Kemi Adeosun (Finance), Kayode Fayemi (Mines and Steel Development), Layi Mohammed (Information), Minister of Communications, Mr. Adebayo Shittu., and Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs, Prof. Cladius Omoleye Daramola.
Discussions which started on a chummy note was said to have been ruptured later. Governors Amosun and Aregbesola were said to have had some hot exchanges at the meeting.
Loud voices were heard from Executive Chamber of the Government House, Agodi where the meeting was held.
Asiwaju Tinubu was said to have given a remark at the meeting.
Briefing newsmen after the meeting which lasted several hours, former governor Osoba said it was convened to chart the way forward for the region. He said all the APC stakeholders in the region were invited to the meeting.
He said the Deputy Speaker Lasun Yusuff who was also invited was out of the country. House Leader Femi Gbajabiamila and Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Olusola Adeyeye were at the meeting.
