It was a mild drama on Monday as one of the gubernatorial aspirants in the forthcoming governorship election in Oyo State, Mr Olasunkanmi Tegbe, became a cynosure of all eyes at the Oyo South Senatorial Meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC), just as his name rented the air among other contenders in attendance.
Tegbe, in company of his teeming supporters on entering Lafia Hotel, Apata, Ibadan, venue of the meeting, stole the show, as the shout of his name ‘Tegbe! Tegbe!! Tegbe!!!’ and his appearance momentarily disrupted Governor Abiola Ajimobi while making his speech.
Many of his supporters defied the terrific heat in the hall to manage their ways in to catch a glimpse of the guber aspirant while being led to his seat.
The uproarious shout of his name even drew the attention of the governor to pause for some some seconds to appeal to the teaming supporters in his usual characteristic way as the ‘Constituted Authority’ to allow him make his remarks.
Tegbe’s entry into the the governorship race like other aspirants before him, had already brought a new twist to the permutations of many cynics, as his popularity is spreading like a wild fire.
A Senior Partner and Head of the Technology Advisory Services and Markets of KPMG Professional Services in Nigeria, Tegbe’s relationship with the governor was said to go far and indeed personal that if there is anyone that Ajimobi has trusted in the past that it is Tegbe.
It is claimed that he is one that could cover whatever foibles of the outgoing governor.
However, as things go in politics, his Unique Selling Point of having a long personal relationship with the governor has attracted severe criticism from rivals with some even now putting claims as to his origin.
Born in 1966 in Oyo Town and of Ibadan ancestral descent, Tegbe who hails from Jegede Compound in Labo area of Ibadan, Oyo State, had his early education at St Marys RCM School, Oyo; Federal Government College, Ogbomoso and University of Ife, Ile – Ife respectively.
He was a national scholar and awards winning student at secondary and university levels and graduated with a First Class Degree in Civil Engineering in 1988 and also an alumnus of Lagos Business School, Nigeria; INSEAD France; Harvard Kennedy School of Government and Harvard Business School.
As an extensive and wide range expert spanning about 30 years in institutional transformation, sector and organizational reforms, strategy formulation and blue print development and implementation in managing various projects in varied industries, non-profit, telecommunications, financial services, manufacturing, oil and gas and public sectors, especially providing reform advisory services to Presidency, state governments and international agencies, he is believed to have had the needed experience to steer the ship of the state.
Prior to his extensive consulting experience, he has worked as Audit Manager in major local and multinational companies which include Head of Materials Accounting for Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), (1991-1992 as contract staff) and has led large technology implementation projects across Africa.
He is an active member of and consultant to the Infrastructure and Human Capital Development Policy Commissions of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG); Member of Ikoyi Club; Ibadan Recreation Club.
In addition, he is the current Chairman of the National Council for Management Development (NCMD); Chairman of the Boards of Trustees of Unity Schools Old Students Association (USOSA); Federal Government College Ogbomosho OSA, and other various corporate boards.
