Details have emerged on how the formal Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Prof. Albert Ilemobade, initially believed to have been kidnapped at his residence at no 1, Ikere Street, Ijapo Estate, Akure, on June 21, 2015, was killed.
The two domestic staff of the late university don, who allegedly confessed to the act, have been arrested by the police.
The professor’s night guard, Daniel Ita, and his former driver, Olayemi Bamitale, had collided to kill him.
The former masterminded the act by calling the latter, being the former driver, on his phone from Ado-Ekiti asking him to come to Akure for a deal: snatching the red Toyota Rav 4 Jeep with registration no. GGE 589 CF belonging to the late professor.
Bamitale told journalists that they deceived the old man that a wiring problem had occurred in the inner store of the house, which made the late Ilemobade to stand up from his bed towards the store.
As he made towards the store, he was strangulated from the back by the ex-driver who claimed that their herbalist instructed them to kill him before their operation could be successful. The red jeep was then taken out of the house straight to Ijebu-Ode, in Ogun State to get a buyer for it. It was in the process that they were caught.
Federal Road Safety Corps officials had apprehended them for not having valid documents of the vehicle. They were later released after paying a charge of three thousand naira to the bank.
It was in the process of bargaining with a buyer that the man had to call the police that the vehicle must be a stolen one. The two suspects are now in the police custody undergoing further interrogation and investigation.
The remains of the late Prof. have since been deposited at the hospital morgue.
Meanwhile, the Vicar of Vinning College of Theology, Denis Along Niyi, the church where the late Prof used to worship has urged the police to extend their investigations to other domestic staff who did not have an idea of his whereabouts for days in the house until the odour started coming out of the house.
The body was, however, discovered by one of his family members who taught a poultry mesh was kept in the house.
The two suspects were said to have robbed Ilemobade’s body with diesel immediately they perpetrated the evil act.
