…urged civil servants to brace up
By Bode Akinbode, Ibadan
Newly appointed Oyo State Head of Service (HoS), Mrs Amidat Ololade Agboola has said that despite all odds against her appointment, God considered her fit for the position.
Agboola in an interview with newsmen shortly after being officially sworn in as the new Oyo State Head of Service (HoS) said she will remain eternally grateful to God and the outgoing Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi who has made it a reality.
The new HoS is the wife of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and former Deputy Senate Chief Whip, Senator Hosea Ayoola Agboola.
Senatir Agboola, who doubles as co-chairman of the joint transition committee in the state, represented Oyo North in the National Assembly between 2011 and 2015 on the platform of PDP.
According to her, she said: “What is important in the mind of Governor Abiola Ajimobi is to make Oyo state great. He is not concerned about the party you come from but to make Oyo State great. That is why I have been appointed.”
She therefore called on civil servants in the state to brace up urging them to extend the support given to the Governor Abiola Ajimobi led-administration to the incoming Governor, Engr Oluseyi Makinde.
“We should not relent in our efforts to make Oyo State great. Whatever we do on our different tables, files that we treat should be for the progress of Oyo State and that should be paramount in our minds,” she urged.
Governor Abiola Ajimobi had earlier in his temarks at the swear-in ceremony, urged the new HoS to uphold the tenets of the strong traditions of the civil service and remain committed to welfare of both the public and civil servants.
He described Mrs Agbooola as a virtuous woman who has exhibited traits of quality and substance and unalloyed commitment to the progress of the state.
According to him, Mrs Agboola’s appointment was done based on the need to move the State forward irrespective of political party affiliation.
The Governor advised her to learn from his style of leadership by doing what is right at all times no matter whose ox is gored.
“People will come to you to tell you stories, let God guide you, people think am very courageous, no, it is because I have God. I don’t fear anybody except God. If I die today, I know I have done a good job.
“Don’t do anything to punish anybody, once God has helped you, just keep going. People will say bad things about you, you have not heard anything now, you have just started.
“All those who are your friends today from tomorrow that you start doing what they don’t like, you become their enemies, they will start to abuse you.
“Those abusing us today are people we have helped. Those that you helped will abuse you . So, don’t expect any praise from any human being but blames. What you should expect from God is blessings and for you to have those blessings, you must be fair, fearless, and must put the right above the wrong at all times,” he urged.
He, while congratulating the new HoS prayed for her successful tenure of office saying, may it benefit all, and above all, may it serve humanity.
The new HoS, who is a native of Ibadan joined the public service of Oyo State as administrative officer in 1988 and held various positions of responsibility across the service until her appointment as Permanent Secretary in March 2015, in the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
She attended Queens School, Ibadan (1975 – 1981) for her secondary school and holds the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) as well as Master’s degrees in History and Public administration from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife in 1985 and 2008 respectively.
