National leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday visited the Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja 11 and Owa of Ijesaland, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran to seek their blessings and prayers over his presidential ambition.
Tinubu, whose first point of call was the palace of Ooni, was well received by politicians within and outside Osun State, traditional rulers from, Ondo, Ekiti and Kwara states, political groups, youths, market men and women.
While speaking at the Ooni’s palace, the APC leader said he came to inform the traditional rulers of his intention to contest for the position of president of Nigeria come 2023.
He recalled that he supported the presidential ambition of President Muhammad Buhari in 2013 as well as gave him backing in 2015 which he won and in 2019 where he won for the second term.
He said what he wanted now is for President Buhari to hand over to him when his 8 years tenure expires.
Tinubu who pleaded with the monarchs to support him said, “I can’t attain the position alone except you all give me your support.
“This Presidential position must not pass us by. They must hand it over to us and I am the one that wanted to occupy the position. l am pleading that you have mercy on me by praying for me and by giving me your blessing that it is done.”
He then charged the youths to imbibe the attitude of tolerance, capacity, endurance, perseverance, consistency as well as make peace their master plan.
In his remarks, Ooni Ogunwusi prayed that God will grant his aspiration.
“We are grateful that you came here today, we are proud of you, you are our star. God will grant your aspiration. All the ancestors of Yoruba land will aid your dream. Your steps shall be guided by the spirit of our forefathers.
“You are a leader that God has bestowed his grace on. You have helped many destinies, you have raised many leaders, one can judge by the massive crowd that joined you here,” the Ooni said.
Earlier, prayers were offered to him by the Ajero of Ijero-Ekiti and Orangun of Ila.
At Owa-Obokun of Ijesaland palace, Tinubu said: “I am a new hope for Nigeria and capable and competent enough of ruling this nation as a president.
“And that is why I come for your blessings, prayers, encouragement and support to get to my Promise Land.
“I want to become a successor of Buhari in APC, step into his shoes, and relieve Nigerians from all the challenges they are facing and give my people meaningful life to live.”
The monarch thereafter gave him his blessings.
