The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Muhammed Adamu, has assured the rank and files of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) of adequate welfare and logistics, disclosing that President Muhammadu Buhari is the process of renovating police barracks.
Adamu l, who spoke yesterday while addressing the officers and men of Oyo State Police Command at its Eleyele headquarters in Ibadan, emphasized that President Muhamadu Buhari has approved immediate promotion of any police officer who is committed and diligent in their duties.
The police chief also disclosed that the federal government had procured sophisticated patrol and operational vehicles with needed gadgets to make the operations of the officers more effective in policing the country.
“We appreciate your hard work. You have been doing a lot to keep this state safe for business to thrive. We know that there are isolated challenges but without your input and dedication in fighting crimes the situation would have worse and I would like to tell you that your effort is not going unnoticed. FG is aware of your situation that you have been making and for that reason the FG especially the President is always concerned about welfare of officers and men of Nigeria Police.
“The President has agreed to make sure that our barracks are brought back to the situation they used to be instead of our officers looking for accommodation. President is the process of renovating the barracks and the construction of new ones for officers and men. We have already procured a lot of vehicles for special highways”.
Earlier, the State Commissioner of Police, Shina Olukolu, said the total strength of officers and men in the command is just barely sufficient to mimimally police the state.
The commissioner however said: “We are assured by the crime fighting operational strategies emplaced by the Inspector-General of Police such as Operation Puff Adder which have percolated down the ladder and benefited this command immensely”.
