IK OGBONNA: There are Times I Want to Do Things as IK Ogbonna… But When I Think about My Wife, Son, I Caution Myself

Popular actor IK Ogbonna is known for his good looks and deft interpretation of roles in Nollywood. Correspondent DEKUNBI KUYE recently sat down with Ogbonna for a brief interview. He speaks on the birth of his son, his beautiful Colombian fiancé Sonia Morales and his thespian work…

My wife kills me with a lot of positivity…

I appreciate my woman because she kills me with a lot of positivity. It’s one thing to have a child with the one you love because children are the best gift you can get.

When I feels genuine love…

I have a daughter and that was the first time I experienced true love. The only time I could feel genuine true love is when it defines me. There are times I want to do things as IK Ogbonna but when I think about her and my son I just caution myself.

I don’t support movies that promote gay…

I would never act a gay person. I don’t support such movies and I would never support both locally and internationally.  I believe that everyone is allowed to be who they are meant to be. I believe God made you for who you are. It doesn’t mean I would judge you and I would respect you.

Why Sonia Morales is different…

The truth is that it was to my utmost amazement when I knew she was my wife. One time I went drinking in Aba and she said to me that you would see that all these people-governors and international celebrities- would respect you. They have money and everything but you are doing very well at your age; I see a billionaire in you, a man greater than who you are at present and all those people would call you Sir.  She said that to me and I instantly developed goose pimples, and I knew she was my wife. She made me outline my dreams. She would say I should write down my dreams and we will look at it together.  We took it one step at a time. And just within a year I had achieved my goals.

I’m a businessman aside acting…

You should not forget that I’m an Igbo man. I’m a businessman. You have to expand and do extraordinary things. It’s called trade beyond empire. What’s happening in Nollywood? We pioneered the comedy industry. Obviously there is something missing, I want to find it with the help of the veterans in the industry and take Nollywood to where it should be. But personally I have a real estate company and I’m working so hard.

I have met my wife’s family before in Europe…

I have met the family (his wife’s) before in Europe. I have met the family before and they love me instantly.
