The gubernatorial candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State in the 2019 elections, Senator Olufemi Lanlehin has cleared the air saying he remains the governorship candidate of the party in the upcoming governorship election in the state.
Senator Lanlehin established the point at a press conference in Ibadan.
He said the party is capable of defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019 general elections.
According to him, with the defection of a former governor of the state, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, the party is capable of defeating other political parties in the state.
Lanlehin expressed optimism that the ADC would form the next government of the state notwithstanding the exit of one its leaders and former governor of the state, Senator Rashidi Ladoja to the Zenith Labour Party.
The ADC flagbearer said the struggle to unseat APC government was collective effort that must be achieved.
Lanlehin who described democracy as the best form of government in any society said anyone who want to continue with the legacy of governor Abiola Ajimobi would not be accepted by the people of the state.
He said: “All our industries must be revived. Every two weeks they go and attract investors, and tell me how many of them have you seen? We are going to take over the government of Oyo state. I can assure you that when I become governor, I still have my legs and head with the people. You must not leave your people, the legacy is what we need. I know how painful it is when I see people without jobs for years. And when I was in Senate, I opened file of CVs, we are going to revive the agricultural sector.
“We are going to bring back trade, quality schools, among others. If you are a degree holder, we will find you jobs but you must contribute to the society. We are going to restore our education sector as far as the constitution allow us to do”.
Lanlehin while speaking further added that the former governor Ladoja despite the fact that he has dumped ADC to join Zenith Labour Party remains leader, father and someone whom he holds in high esteem.
“Governor Ladoja today remains my leader, he remains my father and leader and a person I have a lot of respect for. We were together in the NADECO. He was in the Senate while I was in the House of Representatives representing Ikeja Federal Constituency. But for one thing or the other, he is no more in ADC.”
He said that despite the fact that Ladoja has left the ADC, he was confident that with the support of other political bigwigs, the ADC remains the party to beat in the elections.
He said, “We have the likes of other political bigwigs in the state who are in our party. They are going to lead our campaign. One of them is a former secretary to the state government, Chief Michael Koleoso, another former SSG, Chief Olayiwola Olakojo and another former SSG, Dr. Busari Adebisi and a host of others.”
Also present at the press conference are Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun who anchored the programme, Honourable Tolani Adigun Tajudeen vying for Ibadan south West Constituency 1 in the Oyo State House of Assembly.
