In a bid to resolve and settle the lingering issue of who occupies the principal positions in the Senate, the All Progressives Congress (APC) will hold a two-day retreat for all its Senators-elect in Abuja on May 22nd and 23rd 2015.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the retreat would be held at the Ibeto Hotel in Apo area of the city.
It urged the Senators-elect to arrive at the venue where accommodation arrangement has been made for them, by 6 p.m. on Friday, May 22nd, as there will be a closed-door meeting between all Senators- elect and party leaders at 8 p.m. of the same day.
”The two-day retreat is part of efforts being undertaken by the party to ensure that the legislators hit the ground running for the benefit of Nigerians,” APC said.
But it is understood that the party leaders will attempt to use the meeting to resolve the vexed issue of Senate presidency.
The party had earlier said it would not zone the office of Senate presidency to any geopolitical bloc.
Among those in the race for the Senate presidency are former Kwara State governor Bukola Saraki, Minority Leader of the Senate George Akume and Senator Ahmed Lawan from Yobe State. Akume and Lawan are believed to be the main contenders for the job.
