In what may be a serious slap on the face of the immediate past Governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, the newly inaugurated Governor of the state, Mr Babajide Sanwoolu, took a swipe on him in his inaugural speech while enunciating the roles played by former Governors of the state since inception of the fourth republic.
Sanwoolu, who argued that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu led the team that created the blueprint for the development of the state, argued further that both Tinubu and Babatunde Fashola administrations faithfully executed the economic blueprint and built the structures and institutions of progressive governance. This according to Sanwoolu, indeed set the groundwork for future progress.
Expectedly, Sanwoolu never praise-sing Ambode as he eulogised and pampered Tinubu and Fashola administrations but said Ambode pushed forward the economic blueprint in his ‘special manner’.
Sanwoolu further diplomatically chastised Ambode by saying in his speech that Ambode’s efforts and actions would be duly remembered. This was evident in the paragraph 7 of his inaugural speech “In this, we simply adhere to the tradition of enlightened government set by those who came before us. We owe a large debt of gratitude to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and to Babatunde Fashola. Asiwaju led the team that created the blueprint for development; both their administrations faithfully executed that economic blueprint and built the structures and institutions of progressive governance in the process. This indeed set the groundwork for future progress.”
He added, “Governor Akinwunmi Ambode pushed forward in his special manner. His efforts and actions shall be duly remembered. As your governor, I know fully well who I am , because I know where I came from. More importantly, I know where I am heading.”
While assuring Lagosians and stakeholders of his loyalty as a Governor, Sanwoolu hinted, “I shall remain forever loyal to the aspirations of the people and to the developmental blueprint that has brought so much success to our state since 1999. I shall never deviate from that which best serves the people of Lagos in our journey for progressive governance and economic development.”
He stressed it further in the paragraph 9, that ” The Babajide Sanwoolu you see today shall not change and try to become something I am not. My prayer is only that I grow and improve as your governor to implement good policies and bring the prosperity you deserve”
