A long three weeks before the commencement of 2015 general elections, an aspiring lawmaker has already breadth a sigh of relief after being declared winner already.
Invoking Section 41 (1) of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Christian Adabah Abah of the People’s Democratic Party as the winner of the 2015 National Assembly election in Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadigbo Federal Constituency of Benue State.
INEC explained that it took the action in pursuant of the aforementioned section which provides that: “If after expiration of time for delivering of nomination papers, withdrawal of candidates and the extension of time as provided for in this Act there is only one person whose name is validly nominated in respect of an election, other than to the office of the President or Governor, that person shall be declared elected”.
Mr. Abah was the only validly-nominated candidate in his constituency as at the close of candidate submission process. He defeated the incumbent lawmaker representing the federal constituency, Hon. Hassan Saleh.
