The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Friday announced the postponement the House of Representatives elections in Jigawa State.
The information was contained in a statement issued by Alhaji Sirajo Kore, the Head of Voter Education and Publicity of the commission, in Dutse.
The statement stated that there were no or insufficient supplies of ballot papers to seven constituencies and as such INEC headquarters directed the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Haliru Tambawel, to postpone the poll.
The statement said: “The REC spoke with INEC Chairman, Prof Attahiru Jega, on phone after the stakeholders meeting and the chairman asked him for the opinion of the majority of stakeholders.
“And REC responded that most of the stakeholders are of the opinion for the shifting all the House of Representatives poll in the 11 federal constituencies and Jega directed him to abide by views of majority.”
According to the statement, a new date for the election will be announced by the commission.
