A recently released spreadsheet of political party candidates for the upcoming presidential elections shows General Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress presented only WASC certification to participate in the elections.
This development is unlikely to resolve the controversies that have been trailing Buhari’s educational qualifications since he emerged the APC flag-bearer at the party’s national convention last December.
While the Peoples Democratic Party is vexed by the fact that Mr. Buhari didn’t present due certification to qualify to stand in the presidential elections as required by the Constitution, the APC says the opposition’s claim is spurious because its candidate was a general in the Nigerian army and, as such, couldn’t have been an illiterate. His running mate, Yemi Osinbajo, however, presented his law degree credentials.
President Goodluck Jonathan is running on his education credentials which are up to the P.hD level and his running mate has a Masters Degree.
Political analysts say the matter will probably made its way to the courts since no precedence has been adjudicated on the matter by any court in the country.
