International Women’s Day: Opportunity For Women is Progress For All – Ogunbiyi

By Yetunde Oladejo, Osogbo
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi,  has declared that opportunity for women is a progress for human race in its entirety and that empowering them is empowering humanity.
Ogunbiyi stated this in a message to celebrate womanhood on the ocassion of International Women’s Day, issued by his Press Secretary; Ismail Afolabi, and made available to newsmen in Osogbo, the state capital, Friday.
The PDP chieftain lamented that women’s rights are being reduced, restricted and reversed in the country, adding that it is time for action to end violence against women.
He called for attitudinal change and inclusion of women at all levels, enabling their voices to be heard and giving them access to sustainable development.
He particularly extolled Osun women  who have made notable contributions to the state and Nigeria at large.
He noted: “The participation of women in governance and politics should be encouraged as this is also recommended at United Nations convention. There is no doubt governance is enriched where women participation is encouraged.
“On the occasion of International Women’s Day, I extend warm greetings and good wishes to every great and esteemed woman in Osun. I thank and appreciate you all for your contributions over the years in the building our dear state.”
