JBO Intercepts 57 Vehicles, 1,355 Bags Of Foreign Rice, Other Items


...generates N135m in two months

The acting Coordinator, Joint Border Operations (JBO) Drill Muhammed Garba has disclosed that a total of 20bags of dried yam flour and 1,355bags of rice were intercepted by the service.

He said the dried yam flour bags were seized because it was used to smuggled foreign bags rice into the country.

Garba stated this at a press briefing to showcase activities of the JBO of sector 3 from 16th of January to 26th February 2020.

Sector 3 covers Northcentral states namely; Niger, Kwara, Kogi, and Benue states.

He said the total Duty Paid Value of the items intercepted during the period under review was N135million.

He said “Within the period under review, we have made the following Seizures:57 units of vehicles of various types,1,355 bags of foreign rice (50kg each), Three Long Single Barrel Guns, Knives and 3 Cutlasses at Lokoja axis of Kogi State Handed over to “B” division Police Station Lokoja”

“Two (2) Long Single Barrel Guns, 8 life cartridges and one locally made Pistol at Kotangora axis of Niger State were handed over to “A” division Police Station Kotangora,20 Bags of Dried Yam Flour of 100kg each,1,728 Jerry Cans of PMS/Engine oil (25 liters each),155 Drums with Petroleum Product and Lubricant oil, 16 Motorcycles popularly called Bajaj used in smuggling rice”

“12 Bales of Secondhand Clothing and Textile Materials,68 Jerry Cans of Groundnut Oil of 25 liters each,322 Cartons of Foreign Cosmetics, 9 Cartons of Foreign Tin Tomatoes, 7 Beninoise and 13 Nigerien illegal migrants were repatriated,” he disclosed.

He said the service had six suspects who were  on Administrative bail.

“Total Duty Paid Value of the above items is N135, 001,400.00 apart from Arms, the above seizures were made in different locations of Sector 3 of Joint Border Operations Drill.

Garba added that Commercial drivers association were recently invited on the continuation of their sensitization program on the benefits of border closure.He enumerated benefits of border closure as creation of job opportunities to our teaming youths, helps in reducing Banditry, Human trafficking, and illegal migrants, It reduced smuggling, It enhances productive of locally made goods.

Others help in tackling Security challenges like Banditry, Kidnapping, Smuggling, cattle rustling and illegal migrants, it Increases revenue generation, Improves Synergy among other security agencies and reduce daily consumption of petroleum product due to blockage of illegal exportation based on statistics obtained.
