President Goodluck Jonathan has suspended Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi. He asked the most senior deputy governor in CBN, Mrs. Sarah Alade to act as governor.
The president has forwarded the name of Zenith Bank MD Godwin Emefiele to the Senate for confirmation as new CBN governor. Also appointed as CBN deputy governor is Adekoya Adelabu from First Bank.
Giving reasons for Sanusi’s appointment, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity Reuben Abati said it had to do with financial recklessness.
Sanusi has, however, said he may challenge his suspension in court.
Meanwhile, Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has congratulated Mr. Adekoya Adelabu on his appointment as the new Deputy Governor of CBN by President Jonathan.
In a congratulatory message issued in Ibadan on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Festus Adedayo, Ajimobi described the appointment of Mr. Adelabu as well-deserved.
He said that Mr. Adelabu, going by his antecedent, was equipped with mental, psychological and intellectual abilities to withstand the rigours and the challenges of the job.
