Going by the outcome of a recent poll on who is likely to win the battle for the South-west geo – political zone in the 2015 presidential election, the incumbent, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan would garner more votes in the region than any other candidate.
That was the submission of the Director General of Forerunners Group, Honourable Babatunde Oralusi at a World Press Conference held recently at the Dapo Aderogba Hall, Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ) Press Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan.
According to Hon. Oralusi, the group’s pronouncement was based on the result of an independent survey conducted on the 2015 Presidential Election.
“The survey was conducted by an independent company because we don’t want to put any sentiment into it,” he said.
According to the group, the poll showed that 14.6 percent of the people in South-west Nigeria are card-carrying members of political parties while 85.4 were found to be non-partisan. Of the latter, 58.2 percent were said to be willing to support President Jonathan’s re-election.
It added that of the non-partisan members of the public that took part in the survey, 12.6 percent were undecided 29.2 percent were willing to vote for other candidates.
The group further revealed that the survey was not conducted on the basis of political parties, but on the individuals to be involved in the electoral contest.
“We had a list of aspirants, those that had declared for 2015 and candidates. These were the people listed in the poll for members of the public to vote,” Oralusi said.
He added that the Forerunner Group is an advocacy organisation working to promote responsible government and development cooperation.
