Anthony Joshua regains his heavyweight world titles from Andy Ruiz in a 12-round fight in Saudi Arabia on a tension-soaked encounter on Saturday night.
With his superb display, AJ won back the WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight title belts the Mexican Ruiz had snatched from him when he brought him down on the canvass four times back in June.
Anthony Joshua won on points decision, with the three judges awarding him a unanimous victory. One judge scored the fight 119 to 109 in favour of AJ. For the two others, it was 118 to 110.
With the victory, Joshua joins the rank of two-time heavyweight world champions like Mohammed Ali, Lennox Lewis, Mike Tyson, etc. They all came back from defeat to sensationally win back their belts.
it was an explosive fight in which Joshua hit Ruiz mostly and refused to be hit. But there were also some tense moments for the Nigerian born British boxer.
Joshua gave Ruiz a cut below the eye in round 1 and went on to win massive points in most of the other rounds.
After the fight, AJ said the first time was nice, he had to do it twice. He gave massive kudos to Ruiz and his family.
It was clear he stuck to his pre-match plan, scoring points from the distance and avoiding being hit.
Ruiz himself conceded defeat, saying he did nt prepare much and added more weight, as he claim there were no excuses.
Both boxers spoke of a third fight soon, hopefully in the same Saudi Arabia, which had gracefully hosted the rematch.
