The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Shina Olukolu (psc)+ on Monday paraded abductors of Alhaji Taofeek Azeez aka Akewugbagold Twins at the Command Headquarters, Eleyele in Ibadan.
The abductors are Rildwan Taiwo, Rafiu Mutiu, Olumide Ajala, Fatai Akanji, Bashiru Mohammed, Opeyemi Oyeleye and Modinat Rafiu.
Briefing Journalists on the development at the police Headquarters, the police commissioner said the notorious kidnappers were arrested through the concerted efforts of AKS/SARS operatives.
He said, “As soon as the incident was reported at Ojoo police station and later transferred to AKS Eleyele/SARS Office at Dugbe, Ibadan, a team of AKS/SARS operatives swung into action with concerted efforts intensified to rescue the abducted babies and arrested perpetrators of the heinous crime.”
He said the abducted twins were released unhurt eight days after their father parted with an alleged sum of N4million as ransom to the hoodlums.
He explained further that, “I wish to inform you that the sensational case of the kidnapping of the two -year-old twins of Alhaji Taofeek Azeez aka Akewugbagold on April 25, 2020 has been achieved.
“All the suspects have been arrested with substantial parts of the ransom collected, the guns used for the operation, the two operational vehicles and one motorcycle were also recovered from them”
The CP recalled that the notorious criminals attacked Alhaji Azeez’s wife and subsequently abducted the twins to an unknown destination and demanded the sum of N50 million ransom before they would be released.
He said consequent upon this, the investigative team embarked on a painstaking detailed discreet investigation that traversed several states including Adamawa and Sokoto, leading to the arrest of the hoodlums.
CP Olukolu while thanking the IGP, Governor Seyi Makinde and others for their support on the success of the issue urged the people to always assist the command with credible information that will help them combat crimes and criminality in the state.
The criminals during an interview with journalists confessed to the crime, adding that they committed the act because Akewugbagold did not care for them.
One of the kidnappers Mohammed Bashiru, 33, who has been working with Akewugbagold as media assistant for two years said the act was work of the devils.
Reacting to their allegations that he did not care for them, Akewugbagold described their allegation as falsehood and untrue saying, he always treated them as members of his family.
“With the work they do for me, I pay them as at when due. I give them food and money and every necessary assistance. In fact, I felt betrayed because I had trust in them initially”
Akewugbagold thanked the CP for his efforts at rescuing his twins.
