The serial incidents of attempted kidnapping experienced in Osogbo in the last two days are a disturbing development that appears to complicate the security challenges in the state. Coming at a time when there is already heightened threat to peace in the run-up to the August 9 governorship election, the risk to life and safety of property should now be a major concern for security agencies in the state.
Anything and everything is possible. What appears to be kidnapping now, and apparently coming from outside the state could well metamorphose into a political instrument of intimidation and possible assassination of political opponents.
This whole thing is like a criminal virus spreading into an epidemic across the country and unless the security agencies and general public double their vigilance and robust response to all forms of crimes, we will be in very serious crisis.
Citizens of Osun should remain alert. They should cooperate with the police and other agencies to protect law and order in the state.
People should not take the law into their hands for such could also be criminal.
However, we must be more security conscious than ever before.
