The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has restated commitment to conduct a free, fair, and peaceful House of Assembly bye-election in Kogi state on Saturday.
The Commission also said it has received sensitive materials ahead of House Assembly bye-election for Ibaji constituency in Ibaji Local government area of the state.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor James Apam who disclosed this while speaking with journalists shortly after receiving sensitive materials at Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in Lokoja on Thursday, said the materials have been received, checked and distributed to various Registration Areas in Local government of the state.
Apam said that the policemen are on ground to accompany the sensitive materials to Ibaji Local government to ensure safety delivery of materials at INEC office.
According to him, the commission had earlier distributed insensitive materials and ready to conduct rancur free bye-election on Saturday.
On the level of preparedness, the REC explained that the stage was set for the election and the security situation is under control, while security personnel would be deployed to the local government area.
Apam stressed that INEC would strictly adhered to COVID-19 protocol, urging the electorate to come with their face mask as INEC would also provide for the staff.
