Kogi State Government has closed down all motor parks in Lokoja Metropolis with immediate effect and directed all vehicles for passengers to relocate to the newly constructed Mega Terminal.
Also, the State government has established mobile courts to try erring drivers.
The Special Adviser on Security, Mr. Jerry Omodara who disclosed this while briefing the newsmen on the level of compliance in Lokoja at weekend, said all parks and mini parks within Lokoja metropolises have been served notification of closure.
He said that with the opening of mega terminal, it is now an offence to drop or pick passengers within Lokoja metropolis.
He stressed that all vehicles must drop and pick passengers in the new mega terminal.
He explained thbat this becomes necessary with a view to ensure the security of the lives of commuters and their property.
Omodara explained that the State governor, Yahaya Bello has order the revocation of all Land currently used as Motor parks in Lokoja.
“As a Government, we are happy with the efforts put in place that the Mega Terminal formally reopened Oh Thursday 15 March 2021
“Government will announce and re-designate all Lands and Spaces formally used as Motor parks in Lokoja within days. No vehicle is allowed to carry passengers in any parts of Lokoja except at the Mega Terminal.
“All vehicles traversing Lokoja metropolis must drop-off their passengers only inside the Mega Terminal. Security agencies along with KOTROMA are hereby directed to impound any vehicle that violates the order and issue relevant fines accordingly. ‘
“The Ministry of Transport, various Committees and security agencies are to ensure strict enforcement of the Order,” he said.
Governor Bello appreciated various transport unions, that have contributed one way or the other ensure the smooth take of the mega terminal.
